Ingredients

Filling

  • 1 package Egg Roll Wrappers Look for fresh ones in the refrigerated section
  • 2 cups Cabbage Fresh and shredded
  • 1 cup Carrots Grated
  • 1 medium Onion Sweet and sautéed until translucent
  • 1 cup Protein (Pork, Chicken, or Tofu) Cooked until browned
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce Low-sodium recommended

Frying

  • 2 cups Oil Vegetable or peanut oil

Dipping

  • 1 cup Sweet and Sour Sauce

Preparation

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the shredded cabbage, grated carrots, and chopped onion until tender and slightly translucent—about 5-7 minutes will do.
  • Stir in your chosen protein, cooking until it’s heated through and browned. Add soy sauce to season and mix well, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  • Transfer the filling mixture to a bowl and let it cool slightly.
  • Lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean surface with a corner facing you. Spoon 2 tablespoons of the cooled filling onto the center. Fold the bottom corner over, then roll tightly while tucking in the sides to seal.
  • Heat oil in a pot to 350°F. Fry the egg rolls in batches, cooking until they are golden brown and crispy—about 3-4 minutes per side.
  • Remove the egg rolls from the oil and drain them on paper towels. Serve them hot with sweet and sour sauce.
