Equipment

  • Deep Pot or Fryer
  • Kitchen Thermometer

Ingredients

For the Filling

  • 1 package Egg Roll Wrappers Try spring roll wrappers for a lighter option.
  • 2 cups Cabbage Shredded napa or green cabbage.
  • 1 cup Carrots Shredded or grated.
  • 1 medium Onion Substitute with green onions for milder flavor.
  • 2 cups Cooked Protein (Pork/Chicken/Shrimp/Tofu) Your choice of protein.
  • 3 tablespoons Soy Sauce Tamari can be used for gluten-free.

For Frying

  • 2 cups Cooking Oil (for frying) Vegetable or peanut oil recommended.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Sauté the Vegetables: In a skillet, heat some oil over medium heat. Add and cook the cabbage, carrots, and onion until they're tender, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Incorporate the Protein: Stir in your choice of cooked protein along with the soy sauce. Mix until well-combined and heated through, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Cool the Filling: Transfer the filling to a bowl and allow it to cool for a few minutes.
  • Roll the Egg Rolls: Lay out a wrapper, spoon 2 tablespoons of filling onto the center, and fold tightly.
  • Fry the Egg Rolls: Heat oil to 350°F in a deep pot. Carefully add the egg rolls in batches, frying until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  • Serve and Enjoy: Remove the egg rolls from the hot oil and drain on paper towels. Serve with sweet and sour sauce or soy sauce.

Notes

Ensure the filling is at room temperature before rolling. Fry in small batches to maintain crispiness. Uncooked rolls can be frozen for later use.
